"Trends and Issues in Social Studies is one of the major courses under the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies program that is prescribed by the commission on higher education in the Philippines in its Memorandum Order No. 75, series of 2017. Here, "this course will explore the trends and issues in social studies within the context of a rapidly changing world and will employ multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches..." (CHED, 2017, p.61). Thus, this course highlights trends and issues in the teaching of social studies in basic education, particularly the various challenges in teaching history, geography, and economics. It also aims to prepare and equip Pre-service Social studies teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values that they should possess in order to hone students' critical thinking skills."
